1m F/8 Ritchey Chrétien with dual Nasmyth Foci, Cape Town (South Africa)

Another large telescope for the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO). An 1m F/8 Alt-Az mounted Ritchey Chrétien for robotic use. It has dual Nasmyth Foci. The main telescopes used for research are located at the SAAO observing station (32°22.795’S 20°48,657’E) near Sutherland in the Northern Cape, a 4-hour drive from Cape Town.

Astronomy is our job

Observatory Telescopes

Big prime focus telescopes for private or public observatories including installation and full service.

Robotic / Remote

Robotic instruments for automatic imaging or telescopes for remote observation.

UVEX Spectrograph

Uvex Spectrograph

The UVEX is a “crossed” Czerny-Turner spectroscope optimized for wavelengths from near UV (<350nm) to near IR (1µm).

Diffraction Limited CCD Kameras

Aluma CCD 695 a

Our most popular camera, the SBIG Aluma AC4040 is a large format Scientific CMOS camera, featuring a 16.8 megapixel sensor with 9 micron pixels.  The camera is compatible with the StarChaser SC-4 Guider and optional AO-X Adaptive Optics accessories.

ASA Telescopes

ASA WF1000 f2.5 Wide Field telescope system

ASA WF1000 f2.5 Wide Field telescope system

Ideal platform for widefield imaging!

The WF1000 f2.5 telescope is the ideal platform for wide field imaging and all-sky surveys. The WF1000 f2.5 features a 5-lens corrector and motorized focusing with absolute encoders.
The main mirror can be collimated fully electronic to allow an easy and fast remote collimation.
The WF1000 ensures precise focus and high-resolution data acquisition of the night sky – in the shortest possible time!

UWF1000 f2.5 Optical Layout

UWF1000 f2.5 Optical Layout

The UWF1000 uses a prime focus configuration. The main mirror is a high order asphere and in the prime focus we use a 5 Lens corrector to correct any field aberrations in a wavelength range from 400nm to 700nm. This prime focus telescope achieves the large field through a larger possible field diameter, enabling the usage of the largest available CCD/CMOS cameras with up to 95x95mm2 sensor size.
The larger focal length will be an advantage if it comes to resolution and pixel scale, or if you plan to use CCD cameras with larger pixels
